Eiderdown
The eider is any of the four species of sea duck native to the northern hemisphere. The female Common Eider lines her nest with the soft downy feathers from her breast--these feathers are commercially gathered as eiderdown.
Eider down is extraordinarily soft and has insulating capacities that far surpass any other down. The eiderdown used in eiderdown duvets, eiderdown comforters, eiderdown pillows and eiderdown quilts often comes from Iceland where sanctuaries allow Eider ducks to peacefully rest and nest during their annual migration.
